Well, Floridians did it again. Another Republican governor. His entire platform was "stay the coure." A statement that even the president's team abandoned. Hopefully the rest of the country has come to their senses and the House and Senate will turn to the Democrats. The system of checks and balances doesn't work when the Legislative branch does whatever the Executive branch wants it to do. What I cannot get over is how many of my friends did not vote! It is absolutely infuriating! My friends are fairly smart people, mostly college students/ college graduates. One chose not to vote and one wasn't even registered to vote. That is just ignorance to me, especially when the country is in the state that it is in right now. The 2000 election was only six years ago, when the Presidency of the United States was handed over to 'Dumb Dumb Dubya' by only 500 votes in the state of Florida. You can't tell me that a single vote doesn't count. If 500 more Democrats had gotten of their collective asses and voted for Gore I have serious doubts that the events of September 11, 2001 would have ever even happened and we certainly wouldn't be wasting time energy resources and lives in Iraq.
What movie can you quote by heart?
Submitted by clamhead.
Hmmm... I can qoute along with most of Grease. I absolutley love that movie. The premise of all you need is a make over to change who you are and that love wins out over all else is very uplifting even if you know it isn't true. And the whole fifties idealistic thing set to music is F-U-N!! One of my recitals when I was younger was based on Grease. I got to dance to the Danny/ Sandy duet (thename of which elludes me) as a banana split. Yes, I said BANANA SPLIT!!
Show us someone who inspires you.
Someones actually!
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I am most definitely a night owl. Right now it's cool because I have afternoon classes, but I know that at some point I am going to have to have an 8am class. I am certainly not looking forward to it, but at the same time I kind of want to get to the point where I have a normal schedule. More than half the day is gone by the time I normally wake up and I have to say it is rather depressing. I think if I could wake up around 10am or so and go to sleep by midnight during the week I would be much happier. I think my major problem is that I have been this way all of my life. My dad was a night owl when I was younger, but now wakes up early and goes to bed around 11pm as well. Another problem I have is that I have not had any semblence of a normal schedule for the past three years while I was going through chemo. I slept when I wanted and woke up when I wanted, usually staying up until 6am and sleeping all day.
I just want to be "normal" when it comes to sleeping!
What's your motto?
Live like you mean it.
What's your favorite way to keep in touch? Phone, snail mail, email, text message, Vox, _____ ?
For quick exchanges my favorite way to comunicate is text messaging. Since I got my new plan, $10 for unlimited texting for my entire family, I am texting up a storm. On the flip side I absolutely abhor talking on the phone. If it is a quick exchange of what's up? when are we meeting it's fine, but I cannot stand when people want to talk on the phone for hours with no purpose. It drives me nuts! I don't mean to sound like a bitch, but when you have nothing left to say, say your goodbyes and hang up the phone. Why is it necessary for me to have to come up with an excuse to get off the phone when the other person has nothing left to say? That's why I like texting. When there is nothing left to say, you just don't text back, no long annoying silences.
What was (or is) your favorite subject in school?
Math has always been and still is my favorite subject in school. It has com eeasily for me since I was young and now that I am in college it is a little frustrating at times that I actually have to study, because I have never had to before now. Still, I like the idea of being able to learn one formula or equation and being able to apply it to many different aspects of school and life. Writing has never been my strong suit. Sure, once I get going I do fairly well, but it is just the getting started part that is tough. That is why I like answering the QotD's that Vox posts. They give me a jumping off point and I can dive right into writing, which is little by little, hopefully, preparing me for writing papers this coming Fall.
Tell us a little something about your first car. Do you have any photos you can share?
I still own my first car. Well, my dad owns it, anyway. I got it in the spring of my junior year of high school and it has been my baby ever since. It is the perfect car. Yea, I would like to have a rear window defogger, automatic door locks and windows and a kick-ass stereo system, but I can't help but wonder if someone would break the window to get in for the stereo system. Simplicity is good, and I need to apply the same principle to the rest of my life. Although I really do want a CD player in my car. Maybe a removable one so that it won't be an attractive nuisance.
When was the last time you had to speak in front of a group? How did you feel?
It was probably a play in high school that our acting class put on. I was nervous, but it was a good, excited nervous. I haven't had the opportunity nor the urge to speak publicly in many years.
*EDIT* Actually I got up in front of my Precalc class to explain a problem on the board. I felt pretty accomplished.
Why isn't there a "home" navigation button on every page? There should be. My opinion.
